Dr. John Berchmans Ekka, is a senior Indian Administrative Service officer of the Assam-Meghalaya Cadre (1995 batch) having over 30 years of dedicated public service and leadership experience in diverse fields . His expertise spans over various sectors/areas as a Senior Bureaucrat in the State of Assam . He served as Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat District and Nagaon District, Mission Director of National Health Mission, Assam , as Commissioner Taxes, Assam , Head of the Department of Panchayat & Rural Development Department, Labour & Welfare Department, Transformation & Development Departments . Currently, Dr. J.B. Ekka is serving as the Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Assam looking after Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprise and Tea Tribes & Adivasi Welfare Department.
Dr J.B Ekka holds the academic qualification of M.B.B.S from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi and Master of Public Health (MPH) – Johns Hopkins University, U S A
Dr. J B Ekka has dedicated his career to serving the people of Assam. His deep understanding of health systems, rural development, and industrial policy has allowed him to take a multi-faceted approach to the Public Administration and governance, making meaningful impacts in sectors critical to the state’s development.
